1990s sports card collector Zanoo23_sportscards on Instagram recently conducted a vote on the most collectible baseball players of the 90s. Here are the final top 10 rankings of that vote:
- Ken Griffey Jr.
- Derek Jeter
- Barry Bonds
- Frank Thomas
- Cal Ripken Jr.
- Tony Gwynn
- Pedro Martinez
- Mark McGwire
- Randy Johnson
- Chipper Jones
What does “collectible” mean to you? Largest collector base? Most valuable cards? What leads to high demand for a player’s cards? A couple observations from Zan:
- 8 of the 10 players above are hall of famers, and the 2 that aren’t (Bonds & McGwire) would easily be in without the performance enhancing drugs thing.
- Jeter, Ripken, Gwynn and Chipper all played for only 1 team which bolsters them.
What would your top 10 be?
